Neither a document, nor an anime - it's perhaps closest to an educational film for children. Unfortunately, the informations about Musashi are given very chaotically and far too fast, almost screamed at the viewer - those with no familiarity with the subject will find it hard to follow. However, if you come armed with the knowledge about the legendary swordsman, you'll appreciate the dedication to the details, a good soundtrack, and a new - at least for me - light shed on the character.
